Confirm the Usable Square Before Approving a 20×20 Cover
Square dimensions simplify ordering, yet they make drainage and diagonal tension easy to overlook. State whether the requested size is nominal, cut or finished after hems and heat sealing. For machinery or a hay stack, add the top footprint, side drop and tie-down allowance instead of assuming a flat 20-by-20 sheet will fit. We can work to an approved finished-size tolerance, but the exact tolerance must be written into the sample and purchase specification.
Build the PE Duty Grade Around Square-Panel Loads
For an economical temporary cover, a lighter woven PE construction may be appropriate. A heavy-duty 20×20 tarp needs more than extra thickness: confirm woven structure, weight or mil, lamination, color, outdoor exposure, folding frequency and expected tie-down load. PE is a supplied product line, not LonaTarp’s core self-manufactured PVC material. If repeated abrasion or long service is the priority, the buyer should compare the PE route with a PVC-coated alternative before sampling.
Place Heat-Sealed Joints and Grommets Where the Cover Can Carry Them
A 400 sq ft panel may require heat-sealed joining depending on material width. Ask for the panel map, joint direction and visual acceptance standard. Around the perimeter, specify folded or rope-reinforced hems, corner patches, metal or plastic grommets, eyelet spacing and edge distance. More grommets do not repair a weak hem; the edge and hardware have to be approved as one load path. Logo printing and OEM labels can be reviewed with the material and packing trial.
Control Ponding, Wind Lift and Crew Handling
A large square behaves differently from a narrow rectangle. Flat installation encourages water to collect near the center, while uneven corner tension can twist the sheet and overload one eyelet row. The installation plan should provide slope, intermediate support where needed and enough fixing points to avoid sail-like movement. Remove sharp contact points and do not use the tarp as structural fall protection or as a substitute for an engineered roof.
Lock the 20×20 SKU for Samples, Packing and Reorders
For a repeat 20×20 program, approve a reference sample and retain the size report, material identification, color, joint map, grommet layout, folded dimensions, label artwork and pieces per bale or pallet. Incoming inspection can then compare the same features from batch to batch. A typical made-to-order lead time is about 15 days after specification approval, subject to quantity and packing.
