A batter’s eye screen is a dark, uniform mesh backdrop positioned in or beyond center field to give hitters a cleaner view of the pitched ball. LonaTarp manufactures PVC-coated polyester mesh and fabricates finished panels for baseball facilities, contractors, equipment suppliers and distributors. Each baseball batter’s eye screen is made from an approved sightline, panel schedule, supporting structure and attachment plan—not from a generic field size.
We produce to order and do not hold single-screen retail stock. The standard material-basis MOQ is 5,000 m², which can support one large facility program or compatible multi-field orders. Buyers can approve the mesh, color, edge construction and a finished sample before bulk production.
Define the Sightline Before Setting the Screen Size
A batter’s eye screen should be sized from the hitter’s sightline, not from a generic field dimension. Start with the view from home plate toward the pitcher’s release area and the center-field background, then mark posts, gates, scoreboards, cameras, viewing openings and any obstruction that affects the usable screen area.
There is no fixed set of batter’s eye dimensions for every facility. Each baseball batter’s eye screen should be confirmed by field geometry, approved sightline, supporting fence or frame, wind exposure and installation method. For a large batter’s eye windscreen, panels should be divided at structural supports so joints do not create distracting light gaps in the visual area.

Published manufacturer specifications show that an open PVC- or vinyl-coated polyester mesh around 9–10 oz/yd² (about 305–339 gsm) is a common market benchmark for a custom batter’s eye screen. It can provide a dark visual field while allowing more air to pass than a solid sheet. The mesh opening, coating, color and finished shade level still need to be confirmed on the selected sample.
A batter’s eye windscreen in a more exposed location may require a stronger construction. CoverSports publishes a 16 oz/yd² coated polyester mesh option, approximately 543 gsm, for higher-wind or higher-durability applications. This is a useful comparison point, but heavier fabric does not automatically reduce wind load or make an existing fence suitable. Screen height, post condition, fence wire, support spacing, attachment layout and local wind conditions remain project inputs.

Build Finished Panels Around the Supporting Structure
A batter’s eye windscreen should be fabricated around the actual fence or support frame. The center mesh, reinforced perimeter and attachment points do different jobs, so the panel layout must match the structure instead of relying only on one overall size.
Before production, confirm the hem or welded-edge construction, reinforcement width, eyelet material and spacing, corner treatment, center support and any planned seasonal removal. Tall panels may need a center lacing line or another support arrangement to reduce movement and keep the visual area stable.
LonaTarp supplies finished PVC-coated mesh panels according to the approved specification. Steel posts, concrete foundations, retractable winches, structural calculations and field installation are not included unless they are separately defined and accepted.
Confirm Color, Sample and Quotation Details
Dark green, dark blue or black are common color directions for a batter’s eye screen, but the final color should be approved against the actual center-field environment. The goal is a consistent background in the hitter’s sightline, not simply the darkest fabric available.
