TPU waterproof fabric is a flexible sheet material combining a textile base with a continuous Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) barrier layer that prevents water from penetrating. Unlike water-resistant finishes that can wash out over time, TPU creates a permanent waterproof seal integrated into the fabric structure.

The waterproofing performance of TPU waterproof fabric comes from TPU's closed-cell molecular structure — there are no pores or pathways for water molecules to pass through. Even under pressure (hydrostatic head tested to ≥5m water column), the material stays dry on the other side. This makes it suitable for applications where reliable, long-term waterproofing is non-negotiable.

We also offer breathable TPU waterproof fabric with microporous TPU technology, allowing moisture vapor to escape while blocking liquid water — ideal for apparel and protective equipment where comfort matters alongside waterproofing.

Common Applications

  • Outdoor and tactical apparel — Waterproof jackets, rain suits, and all-weather gear for industrial and recreational use.

  • Military and defence equipment — Field tents, protective covers, and deployable shelters requiring durable waterproof performance.

  • Geotextile and civil engineering — Ground barriers, canal lining, and subsurface drainage systems in construction and environmental projects.

  • Marine covers and deck enclosures — Boat canvases, cockpit covers, and dock box liners that block rain, saltwater spray, and UV.

  • Sports and leisure equipment — Diving drysuits, whitewater raft covers, and outdoor sleeping system shells.

FAQ

How waterproof is TPU waterproof fabric? Our standard TPU coated fabrics are tested to ≥5,000 mm hydrostatic head. Breathable variants typically rate ≥3,000 mm — sufficient for most outdoor apparel and equipment applications.

Can TPU waterproof fabric be seam-taped or welded? Yes. TPU welds cleanly using hot air, hot wedge, or RF welding. Seam tape can be applied for waterproof seam closure in garment and tarp construction.

Does TPU waterproof fabric breathe? Standard TPU coating is not breathable. For breathable versions, we use microporous TPU technology — moisture vapor passes through but liquid water cannot. This is standard for apparel-grade waterproof fabrics.

What is the lifespan of TPU waterproof fabric outdoors? With UV-stabilised grades, outdoor service life is typically 3–5 years. Standard grades may show surface chalking after 1–2 years of UV exposure.
