Why Choose LonaTarp for Custom PVC Coated Fabric Rolls
Our Certificates
CE, SGS, ISO or other documents are checked against the exact product, report scope and project requirement. A general logo or certificate does not prove every requested property. Samples are available for specification and processing review; sample format, freight and test scope are confirmed for the inquiry rather than promised as universally free.

PVC Coated Polyester FAQs
Is PVC coated fabric waterproof?
A continuous PVC surface can provide a water barrier across the material panel. Finished-product waterproofness still depends on welds, sewn seams, holes, edges, fittings, wear and installation. Define separate material-panel and finished-assembly tests instead of using the word waterproof as the acceptance standard.
Is vinyl coated polyester the same as PVC coated polyester?
In industrial coated-fabric sourcing, vinyl commonly refers to PVC, so the two phrases often describe the same broad material family. They do not identify a grade. Confirm the polyester reinforcement, PVC build, total GSM or thickness, usable width, surface, converting route and required tests.
What are the drawbacks of PVC coated fabric?
A construction that is wrong for the application can be heavier or stiffer than needed, difficult to weld or sew, vulnerable to coating separation, or unsuitable for the expected temperature, chemical contact or outdoor exposure. Treat these as selection and verification risks: define the use conditions, approve the relevant sample and test the most likely failure before bulk production.
How should buyers select heavy-duty, 18 oz, 600D or 1000D fabric?
Heavy duty is not a universal grade, and weight or denier is only one input. Start with the finished product, load direction, tear and abrasion risk, fold exposure, seam method and acceptance limits. Then compare the reinforcement, PVC build, total weight or thickness and processing result; do not approve a roll from the 18 oz, 600D or 1000D label alone.
Can PVC coated fabric be welded and sewn?
Many PVC-coated constructions can be welded, sewn or used with both methods, but compatibility is specific to the material and process. Approve the selected roll with the intended machine settings, seam geometry, surface and finished-product test before bulk production.
What should I provide to buy PVC coated fabric in bulk?
Send the finished product and use environment, current specification or sample, target construction, usable width, roll quantity, color and surface, welding or sewing method, required tests or reports, packing, destination and delivery date. LonaTarp supplies made-to-order roll materials for B2B production programs; the minimum order quantity for roll materials is 5,000 m².
PVC coated fabric is a flexible composite made from a textile reinforcement—commonly polyester—and one or more PVC functional layers. The textile carries load and helps control dimensions; the PVC build provides the continuous surface, color, flexibility and processing characteristics required by the finished product. LonaTarp manufactures made-to-order, solid PVC coated polyester fabric rolls for tarp and industrial-product converters, importers, wholesalers and distributors. This page covers unfinished roll material, not retail yardage or ready-made single tarps. Select the roll by its end use, reinforcement, coating route, GSM or thickness, width, surface, converting method and acceptance tests. Roll Materials: MOQ 5,000 m².

What PVC Coated Fabric Is—and What Buyers Mean by Vinyl
The complete material name is more useful than the shortest market label. A typical PVC coated textile fabric combines a polyester base cloth with PVC on one or both faces. Depending on the required build, the textile may be laminated with film, impregnated and laminated, or directly coated. A lacquer, embossing, print or other surface treatment may be added for a specific product program.
Industrial RFQs often use several names for closely related materials. They may indicate the same broad family, but none is a complete specification.
| Wording found in RFQs | Practical interpretation | What must still be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| PVC coated polyester fabric, PVC coated polyester, polyester PVC material, PVC polyester material, or polyester and PVC fabric | Usually a polyester-reinforced, solid PVC composite | Yarn and fabric construction, PVC build, total GSM/thickness, width and surface |
| Vinyl coated polyester fabric, vinyl coated polyester, vinyl coated fabric, PVC coated vinyl fabric, or PVC vinyl coated polyester | Vinyl commonly refers to the PVC layer in industrial coated-fabric sourcing | Confirm that the object is reinforced roll material rather than upholstery, film or a finished tarp |
| PVC coated cloth, PVC coated material, or PVC fabric | Broad market terms | Confirm the textile reinforcement, solid/open structure, coating polymer and delivery form |
| Coated polyester fabric or plastic coated fabric | The coating polymer is not fully defined | State whether the coating is PVC, TPU or another polymer before comparing suppliers |
| Vinyl coated PVC fabric or PVC vinyl fabric | Redundant or ambiguous wording | Rewrite the requirement as PVC-coated polyester fabric and add the measurable construction |
For this page, industrial vinyl fabric means solid, textile-reinforced PVC-coated roll material. It does not mean clothing vinyl, faux leather, clear gauge sheet, adhesive craft vinyl or marine-upholstery fabric sold by the yard.
Tarpaulin terminology needs one more check. A PVC coated tarp or coated tarpaulin can mean either roll material or an already fabricated cover. PVC coated tarpaulin fabric more clearly indicates the roll. Searches for PVC coated tarpaulins may instead refer to welded, hemmed and eyeleted finished products. Tell the supplier which product form you are buying before asking for a comparable quote.
Choose the Material Route Before You Compare GSM
PVC-coated fabrics are a material family, not one universal grade. The manufacturing route affects thickness distribution, hand, coating-to-textile bond, surface and processing behavior. Start with what the finished product must do, then select a route that can be sampled and tested under those conditions.
| Material route | When buyers consider it | Main points to validate |
|---|---|---|
| Film-laminated PVC/polyester | General covers, canopies, temporary protection and cost-sensitive roll programs | Film-to-textile bond, flexibility, surface, welding and repeated-fold behavior |
| Knife-coated PVC/polyester | Projects that need closer control of the applied coating and surface | Coating uniformity, adhesion/peel, weather requirement, weld response and finish |
| Impregnated + laminated/coated construction | Dense fabrics, higher bond, air-retention or liquid-barrier programs | Penetration, peel, airtight/liquid-tight assembly tests and processing window |
| Embossed, printed or lacquered construction | Bags, pads, covers, graphics or products with appearance/cleaning requirements | Texture, gloss, print adhesion, color, abrasion and effect on welding |
| Rip-stop or application-specific reinforcement | Products exposed to tear propagation, repeated handling or local stress | Yarn layout, tear direction, edge design, seam loads and finished-product test |
No route is automatically the best. Lamination can be a practical choice for many general programs; coating or impregnation may be justified where the project needs different adhesion, surface or barrier behavior. Compare controlled constructions rather than process names alone. Our knife coating vs lamination guide explains the process decision in more detail.
Open PVC mesh is outside this page's product object because its intentional openings allow airflow and drainage. It should not be substituted for solid fabric when the product needs a continuous barrier. Fixed 10 oz, 18 oz, 22 oz, 40 oz, 600D and 1000D searches also remain detail-page tasks rather than new categories inside this collection page.

Build the Roll Specification From the Finished Product
The finished product determines which variables deserve priority. A truck cover sees wind, cargo edges and repeated rolling. A liquid bag needs seam and barrier validation. A sewn equipment cover may prioritize flexibility, abrasion points and needle/seam behavior. The same generic material name cannot answer all three tasks.
Use the specification as one connected system:
| Selection variable | What it changes | What a useful RFQ should state |
|---|---|---|
| Finished product and environment | Defines loads, weather, contact media, cleaning and likely failure | Product, installation/use method, climate and expected handling |
| Polyester base fabric | Influences tensile/tear direction, dimensional control and handling | Denier/density direction, weave or agreed performance target |
| PVC layer/process | Influences surface, flexibility, coating bond, welding and functional formulation | Lamination/coating/impregnation direction or an approved reference sample |
| GSM and thickness | Describe total build and handling, not complete quality | Target range, tolerance and test method; avoid GSM-only approval |
| Usable width and roll format | Affects seam count, cutting yield, storage, roll weight and loading | Width, tolerance, roll length, joint rule, core and packing |
| Color and surface | Affect appearance, heat absorption, cleaning, printing and repeat orders | Color reference, face/back, gloss/texture and printable side |
| Converting process | Determines whether the roll works on the buyer's line | HF welding, hot air, sewing, cutting, printing or bonding method |
| Function and acceptance | Turns UV, FR, cold, mildew or restricted-substance requests into evidence | Target market, named standard/method, limit, sample and report scope |
LonaTarp's broad PVC-coated-tarpaulin programs cover 300–2000 GSM, but that range is not a promise that every construction, width, color and function is available at every weight. A heavier roll can contain a different reinforcement, more coating or more filler; it is not automatically stronger, more weatherable or easier to weld. Use our PVC tarpaulin weight and thickness guide when GSM or thickness is the first unresolved decision.
Translate the Finished Product Into Material Requirements
Applications are not a generic list of everything PVC can do. Each product creates a different material and acceptance task.
Tarps, Truck Covers and Industrial Covers
Wind, tie-down loads, cargo edges, sliding, folding and repeated rolling can concentrate stress at seams and reinforcement points. Define the base-fabric direction, abrasion areas, welding route, surface, color/print requirement and edge design together. Buyers whose main task is a tarpaulin roll program can continue to our PVC tarpaulin roll material page.
Tents, Canopies and Temporary Structures
Span, tension, climate, cleaning and fire requirements influence width, dimensional stability, joining and surface selection. A request for flame retardancy must name the applicable standard, version, sample structure and acceptance limit; the phrase tent grade is not enough.
Bags, Pads and Sewn Products
PVC coated fabric for bags may require a balance among flexibility, surface feel, abrasion, printability, sewing or welding, edge finish and color consistency. A leather-embossed surface can support selected bag or pad programs, but the buyer should test the actual seam, print and repeated-fold condition. The current legacy pvc-coated-fabric-for-bags URL must not remain the canonical owner of the broad material-family query after this collection page is published.
Liquid, Airtight and Inflatable Components
The panel material, seam geometry, welding conditions, valves and finished assembly all affect leakage. A dense or impregnated construction may be considered, but suitability must be confirmed against the contained medium, pressure, fold cycle and agreed leak/strength tests. A flat swatch cannot prove the completed product is liquid-tight or airtight.
Distributor and Converter Programs
Importers and distributors need specifications that remain comparable across widths, colors and repeat orders. Define the allowed tolerances, roll length, joint rule, label, packing, color reference and change-control process before the first bulk order. These controls can matter as much as a headline strength value.
Waterproof, Heavy Duty and Reinforced Need Test Conditions
A continuous PVC surface can provide the panel with water-barrier potential. The completed product can still leak through welds, sewn seams, holes, edges, hardware, valves, worn areas or installation details. When an RFQ uses the wording PVC coated fabric waterproof, separate the flat-material test from the finished-product test.
The phrase PVC coated polyester fabric waterproof should be rewritten as a measurable requirement: name the material structure, water-pressure or leakage method, seam construction and acceptance condition. The same applies to PVC coated waterproof fabric. Waterproof is not a substitute for a test plan.
Heavy duty PVC vinyl fabric should describe the load and failure it must resist. Heavy-duty requirements may involve tensile direction, tear propagation, peel strength, abrasion, fold cycling, edge loads, cold flexibility or weld strength. Adding GSM without these conditions can make quotations look comparable when they are not.
Similarly, reinforced vinyl fabric can refer to solid PVC-coated polyester or to an open coated mesh. Confirm whether the product needs a continuous surface or designed openings. Reinforced only identifies the presence of a support structure; it does not define the complete material.
UV resistance, flame retardancy, mildew resistance, cold flexibility, anti-static behavior and restricted-substance compliance are project options, not default properties of every roll. Confirm the target market, standard, test method, sample construction, acceptance value and report requirement. Artificial-weathering hours must not be treated as a direct prediction of outdoor service life.
Validate Welding, Sewing, Cutting and Printing on the Selected Roll
A material sample that looks correct can still fail on the buyer's production line. PVC formulation, coating build, surface treatment, filler level, plasticizer system, fabric construction and prior heat exposure can change the welding window, feeding, folding and printing response.
Before bulk approval, use the intended roll construction to check:
- high-frequency or hot-air welding with the actual machine settings and seam geometry;
- bond, distortion and surface change after cooling and conditioning;
- sewing needle, thread, stitch, seam allowance and edge reinforcement where sewing is used;
- cut-edge stability, fraying or yarn movement;
- ink adhesion, curing and image quality on the intended printable face; and
- the fabricated sample under the buyer's finished-product acceptance method.
Available LonaTarp processing support includes high-frequency and hot-air welding, industrial sewing, cutting, eyelet installation and printing. Those capabilities do not make every construction suitable for every process. Use the selected material and the buyer's equipment or accepted equivalent for the trial. Buyers comparing joining routes can review hot-air welding vs high-frequency welding.

How to Compare PVC Coated Fabric Suppliers
The most useful PVC coated fabric suppliers do more than send a price per square meter. They help the buyer define one comparable purchase object and show how it will be reproduced from sample to bulk.
| Supplier check | Evidence to request | Risk reduced |
|---|---|---|
| Product-form clarity | Confirmation that the quote is for solid reinforced roll material | Receiving film, mesh, upholstery or finished tarps instead of the required roll |
| Construction definition | Base fabric, PVC route/build, GSM/thickness, width, surface and tolerance | Non-comparable quotations |
| Converting evidence | Trial weld, seam, print or converter sample | Production-line failure |
| Functional evidence | Named method, sample and product-specific report scope | Unsupported UV/FR/cold/compliance claims |
| Sample-to-bulk control | Approved sample plus written production specification | Bulk quality differs from sample |
| Roll controls | Length, joint rule, core, diameter, label, protection and loading plan | Short rolls, handling loss and packing damage |
| Repeat-order control | Retained construction/color reference and documented changes | Batch inconsistency |
For LonaTarp, PVC coated fabric wholesale means made-to-order roll production for B2B quantities, not a retail assortment by the yard. The commercial quote depends on the base textile, PVC formulation and amount, process route, total build, width, surface, color, functional additives, tests, quantity, packing and delivery requirements.
CE, SGS, ISO or other documents are checked against the exact product, report scope and project requirement. A general logo or certificate does not prove every requested property. Samples are available for specification and processing review; sample format, freight and test scope are confirmed for the inquiry rather than promised as universally free.
Control Sample-to-Bulk Consistency and Roll Packing
An approved swatch is useful, but it cannot control an order by itself. The written specification should identify the same construction, tolerances, processing result and packing requirements that the buyer expects in bulk.
| Control point | What to record before production |
|---|---|
| Material identity | Base fabric, PVC build/process, face/back, color and approved reference |
| Dimensions | GSM/thickness method and tolerance, usable width and roll length |
| Appearance | Surface, gloss/texture, color tolerance, coating uniformity and defect limits |
| Mechanical performance | Agreed tensile, tear, peel, abrasion or other test method and acceptance value |
| Converting | Approved weld, seam, print or fabricated sample where relevant |
| Roll presentation | Joint rule, core, diameter/weight handling, wrapping, label and pallet requirement |
| Shipment | Packing protection, container-loading or delivery plan and inspection record |
| Repeat order | Retained sample/specification and approval for any material/process change |
LonaTarp supports sample confirmation before bulk production and pre-shipment inspection. Acceptance follows the confirmed specification, approved sample, test method, contract or report. It does not rely on a general webpage claim.
Turn the Requirement Into a Reproducible Roll Standard
A useful material page should leave the buyer with a decision, not just a list of properties. Start from the finished product and first likely failure. Define the reinforcement, PVC route/build, total construction, width, surface, converting process and acceptance method. Approve the right sample, then carry the same written controls into bulk production, packing and repeat orders.
