Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find our most frequently asked questions. If you do not find a resolution to your question, feel free to contact us directly.
Is double wall fabric the same as drop stitch fabric?
They usually refer to the same structural family: two textile faces connected by internal yarns so an inflated panel can maintain a controlled height. DWF is the common abbreviation for double wall fabric. The purchase specification still needs to identify knitted or woven construction, standard or reinforced series, height and surface system.
What is the difference between knitted and woven drop stitch?
They use different base constructions and therefore can have different weight, stretch, shape-control and converting behavior. The better option depends on the finished panel. Compare the actual model data and a fabricated sample rather than assuming woven is always better.
What does MSL mean in this collection?
MSL identifies LonaTarp’s reinforced drop-stitch series. It is not used here as a generic industry expansion or a pressure guarantee. Select knitted or woven MSL only after the reinforcement need, panel design and sample acceptance are clear.
What is the MOQ for drop stitch fabric?
The MOQ is 500 linear meters per model. Width is stated separately because it determines the total square-meter quantity and roll configuration.
Can width, roll length, color and printing be customized?
Yes. Width, roll length, color, surface finish and printing can be customized within the selected model’s production feasibility. Send the artwork and indicate whether the printed or treated area will be welded.
Can flame-retardant drop stitch fabric be customized?
A flame-retardant direction can be evaluated when the buyer provides the target standard, test method and required grade. It should not be quoted as a general property without those conditions and the selected-model confirmation.
What pressure can the material hold?
There is no responsible universal PSI value for every roll and finished product. Target pressure must be reviewed with the selected model, panel dimensions, sidewall, seam, valve and test method. The approved sample should establish the finished-product acceptance point.
Is TPU drop stitch fabric available?
TPU-coated and TPU-laminated drop-stitch materials exist in the market, but they are a separate material direction. This page covers LonaTarp’s currently confirmed PVC drop-stitch collection. TPU drop stitch availability, height, surface construction, welding route and MOQ must be confirmed as a separate development before it is offered.
Double Wall Fabric, DWF and Drop Stitch Material: What Buyers Are Actually Ordering
Double wall fabric consists of two parallel textile faces connected by a dense field of internal yarns. Once the faces are made airtight and the converted panel is inflated, those yarns control the distance between the top and bottom surfaces. The result is a flat inflatable section with a defined height.
In material purchasing, DWF, double wall fabric and drop stitch material usually describe this same structural family. Some buyers write dropstitch fabric without a space. The important commercial distinction is not the spelling; it is the construction being ordered—knitted or woven, standard DWF or reinforced MSL, the required height, PVC surface system and the downstream welding process.
The internal yarn system is sometimes called the drop stitch core, but the core alone is not a finished airtight product. Face layers, surface treatment, sidewall material, welded joints and valves determine whether the converted product can meet its agreed pressure-retention requirement.
Four Drop Stitch Fabric Series for Roll Buyers
The collection is organized by construction so a buyer can compare the material before discussing color or branding.
Knitted DWF Drop Stitch Fabric
The knitted DWF range is the standard starting point for many SUP boards, inflatable mattresses, gym mats, SPA walls and similar flat inflatable panels. Current product documentation covers multiple heights from 5 cm to 20 cm with a 500D base direction and a nominal material weight around 2700 g/m². Final width, roll length and model data are confirmed in the quotation.
Woven DWF Drop Stitch Fabric
Woven drop stitch is used when a project needs the dimensional behavior and weight profile of a woven base. Current models cover 10 cm to 30 cm heights, use a 1000D base direction and fall around 2100–2200 g/m². It is a practical candidate for SUP, floating platform and other projects where the buyer wants to compare panel stiffness, weight and shape control through sampling.
Reinforced Knitted Drop Stitch Fabric — MSL Series
MSL is LonaTarp's reinforced drop-stitch series. The knitted MSL range is intended for projects that need an additional reinforcement direction rather than a standard DWF construction. Current height options extend from 10 cm to 30 cm, with nominal weights around 3100–3300 g/m². The exact base-cloth description must be confirmed on the selected model data sheet before publication or purchase.
Reinforced Woven Drop Stitch Fabric — MSL Series
The woven MSL range combines a woven base direction with the reinforced series construction. Current references cover 10 cm to 20 cm heights, a 1000D base direction and nominal weights around 2500–2700 g/m². It should be compared by finished panel requirements, not chosen only because the material is heavier than a standard woven DWF.
Select DWF or MSL by the Finished Panel, Not by GSM Alone
| Project Question | Knitted DWF | Woven DWF | Reinforced Knitted MSL | Reinforced Woven MSL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Standard multi-application range | Woven construction with a different weight and dimensional profile | Reinforced option for demanding handling or product design | Reinforced option with woven-base direction |
| Current height range | 5-20 cm | 10-30 cm | 10-30 cm | 10-20 cm |
| Current nominal weight | About 2700 g/m² | About 2100-2200 g/m² | About 3100-3300 g/m² | About 2500-2700 g/m² |
| What to validate | Surface bond, height consistency, weld trial and finished pressure test | Shape control, panel stiffness, weight, weld trial and finished pressure test | Reinforcement benefit, folding behavior, joint design and finished pressure test | Reinforcement benefit, dimensional behavior, joint design and finished pressure test |
Material weight does not establish finished-product pressure, load capacity or service life by itself. We usually review the target height, panel area, working pressure, bending and impact exposure, welding method, sidewall construction, fittings and acceptance test together. A lighter woven option can be appropriate for one design, while a reinforced MSL may be justified for another; neither conclusion should be made from one number on a data sheet.
Custom PVC Drop Stitch Fabric by Model and Converting Process
The current collection is PVC drop stitch fabric for roll conversion. Buyers can customize:
- width and roll length within the selected model's production feasibility;
- color and surface finish;
- printing, artwork and brand identification;
- drop-stitch height and product-family selection from the current range;
- packing and roll-marking requirements;
- flame-retardant formulation when the buyer provides the target standard, test method and required grade.
Printing and surface treatments must be reviewed with the intended welding area. Ink, finish, coating build and contamination can change joint consistency. For this reason, a printed sample should not be approved only by appearance when the same surface will later be welded or bonded.
The MOQ is 500 linear meters for each confirmed model. Because roll width changes the total square-meter quantity, the quotation should state both linear meters and approved width.
Match the Drop Stitch Inflatable Material to the Actual Product
Typical applications include:
- inflatable paddle boards and related flat deck panels;
- floating docks, swim platforms and modular water decks;
- drop-stitch boat floors and air-deck inserts;
- air tracks, gym mats and training surfaces;
- SPA walls, portable tubs and selected pool structures;
- inflatable mattresses and custom industrial flat panels.
The application name is only the starting point. A SUP deck, a boat floor and a floating platform can use material from the same broad family, yet require different heights, sidewall paths, surface zones, fittings and finished-product tests. Send the drawing or reference sample so the roll recommendation follows the product rather than a generic use label.
Separate Roll Inspection from Finished Pressure Validation
A material data sheet cannot replace the test of a sealed inflatable product. For drop stitch PVC fabric, the approval plan should be divided into two levels.
Material and roll checks may include model identity, height, width, nominal weight, yarn alignment, face appearance, surface consistency, coating adhesion, roll condition and agreed packing marks.
Converting and finished-panel checks may include the buyer's welding trial, seam appearance and joint strength, sidewall and corner transitions, valve or fitting interfaces, dimensional stability after inflation and pressure retention under an agreed method.
The exact test method, sample size, conditioning, pressure, duration and acceptance limit must be written into the approved specification. We do not publish one universal maximum PSI for every model because the roll material, seam, sidewall, valve and finished geometry work as one pressure-holding system.
Buyers can review our quality control process and then agree which records are required for the selected model and sample.
What to Send a Drop Stitch Fabric Supplier for an Accurate Quotation
When comparing drop stitch fabric suppliers, ask whether the quotation identifies the construction, model, height, nominal weight, width, roll length, surface, printing limits, welding route and sample acceptance method. A low-detail quote can hide a different base construction or an untested finishing process.
For an accurate quotation, send:
- finished-product name, drawing, dimensions or reference sample;
- target panel height and working-pressure range;
- preferred knitted, woven, DWF or reinforced MSL direction;
- required width, roll length and quantity by model;
- color, surface finish, printing and branding files;
- intended welding, bonding or lamination process;
- flame-retardant or other compliance standard, test method and grade;
- destination, packing and sample requirements.
We will return a model direction and identify which points still require sample or technical confirmation before bulk production.
